Elecret microphone connection

Posted on Sep 25, 2012

Elecret microphones have a small electret melement and FET amplifier built to same case. Electret microphones needs some power to operate. The power (typically 4-10V) is fed to microphone through resistor (typically 1-10 kohm). The electret microphone capsule takes typicaly 0.5-2 mA current when it operates.

Very simple circuit using just one resistor (to power the FET within the electret capsule) and one capacitor to decouple the DC voltage to the FET power and couple the AC audio signal to the next stage of audio preamplification. Two versions are presented
