An electronic speed control for an AC Motor can be designed with a Light Dimmer IC by limiting the minimum firing angle of the triac so that the motor wont stall. This can be done effectively for high volume applications by making a minor change to the IC. An alternative to modifying the IC is illustrated in Figure 2. visit page.

Fan noise is becoming a significant issue as electronic equipment increasingly enters the office and the home. Noise is proportional to fan speed, and the airflowhence, fan speednecessary for cooling is less at low ambient temperatures. Because ambient temperature is lower than the upper design...

TPIC43T01 integrated motor controller

The TPIC43T01 is an integrated motor controller designed to provide precision RPM (revolution-per-minute) control to a 3-phase brushless dc motor. The TPIC43T01 outputs are pre-drivers for six external power NMOS FETs or an integrated power array such as the TPIC1310.

Two Wire Stepper Motor Positioner

Figure 2 is a diagram of the control circuit built on a 1.45 X 1.8 inch PC board. IC1 is an LMC555 CMOS timer that generates a 200 microsecond wide clock pulses to step the motor and control its speed. The speed can be varied by changing the pulse repetition rate with R1.

Position detectors provide motor-control logic

In the circuit of Figure 1, assume that a brush-type dc motor must drive a load back and forth between two endpoints on a lead screw. Optical sensors determine end of travel, and an SPDT switch selects to which end to send the load. The sensors themselves supply all the necessary directional...
