AM portable Reciever Using ZN414

Posted on Feb 6, 2014

This is a circuit diagram circuit AM portable radio receiver made from the ZN414 IC. The ZN414 ic has now been replaced by the MK484 which is identical in performance and pinout. Designed popular ZN414 IC this receiver covers medium wave band band from approximately 550-1600 KHz with the values shown. The coil and tuning capacitor can be taken fro

m an old MW radio to save time. The ZN414 IC, has now been replaced by the MK484. Integrated circuit is a 3 pin, tuned radio frequency circuit, and includes several RF stages, automatic control and AM get detector. It is easy to overload and voltage IC operation rather important to achieve good results. The following is a schematic drawing: In this circuit a small voltage regulator built around BC108B transistors, four diodes are 1N4148, the 2k7 and 10k resistors and 820R preset resistor. 10k pot that serves as the control of selectivity for the receiver, controlling the operating voltage for the ZN414 (or MK484). If you live in an area that is absorbed by strong radio signals, then the voltage may need to decrease. I found the optimal performance with a supply of about 1. 2 volts. Audio amplifier is built around strengthening inverting 741 op-amp circuit. Increasing the extra flow provided using BC109C / BC179 transistor complementary pairs to drive an 8 ohm loudspeaker. Voltage gain full audio amplifier is around 15.
