Category: Computer Circuits / Computer Interface Views: 1105 Rank: 0 This is the basic interface I used as part of my Computerized Room project. This is the parallel interface only. The 8 bit input card can be found, along with the rest of the project, at Computerize Your Room/House. This interface, as well as the other two interfaces, came from the book `The Robot Builders Bonanza`, by Gordan McComb. This interface is also useful for controlling small robots, etc. It is cheap and fairly easy to build, although you should not attempt this project unless you have prior experience with electronics. You probably won`t damage anything if you hook it up wrong, but there is always a chance (some parallel ports are better protected then others). If possible, test the project on someone else`s, or a school computer# I built the interface on a piece of universal solder board due to the large number of wires that must cross. It is also much easier to fix mistakes then on a PC board. I also used a 25 pin crimp connector to connect it to the parallel port. 26 conductor visit page. # I built the interface on a piece of universal solder board due to the large number of wires that must cross. Related circuits This is a general purpose serial port infrared receiver. With the help of appropriate software (see below) you can control different functions of your pc from a distance. For example you can control your home cinema settings (volume, play, pause, stop etc), your winamp etc. It uses for... PC controls inexpensive waveform generator The circuit in Figure 1 is a simple cost-effective waveform generator using PC control. You calculate the digital image of the desired waveform and store it in the 32k X 8-bit RAM (62256) through the 74HCT245 data buffer and the 16-bit local-address bus generator built with the 74LS393 binary... This circuit draws only 4 mA from a 5-V supply while driving a standard RS-232C receiver. The system clock drives a de-de converter that produces -3.4 V. The frequency can range from 0.5 to 8 MHz, but a range of 0.5 to 1 MHz will minimize power dissipation. The circuit output withstands direct... ISOLATED FULL DUPLEX RS232C INTERFACE This self powered interface circuit electrically isolates the TxD and RxD lines from the PC serial port and protect the PC from direct connection to hazardous voltages. The isolator is intended to provide electrical isolation between a computer and the equipment connected to its serial port. This... Charge redistribution to achieve A/D conversion. In typical applications, as a ratiometric conversion system for a microprocessor, V^p, will be connected to ground and VREF+ will be connected to Vcc. Interfacing Example - 16 Character x 2 Line LCD This is the first interfacing example for the Parallel Port. We will start with something simple. This example doesn`t use the Bi-directional feature found on newer ports, thus it should work with most, if no all Parallel Ports. It however doesn`t show the use of the Status Port as an input. So... A number of signals may be sent between two points simultaneously by making a slight modification in the receiver circuit. AVR-Based Serial Port IR Receiver This is a simple IR receiver circuit which plugs into a serial port of a computer. Okay, there are many other circuits of this kind, and most of them are even simpler, but this circuit has two major advantages: (1) it uses an Atmel AVR RISC microcontroller (an AT90S2313) instead of the usual PIC...
