This page describes my home-built ICOM CI-V interface. In order to connect most all ICOM radios to a computer, an additional interface is required. The interface bridges the gap between the RS-232 electrical levels used by the computer serial port, and the open collector shared bus used by the ICOM radios. The interface, therefore, is not much more than a level converter. visit page.

Controlling Devices Through a Computer`s Parallel Port

This is a very easy and fun to build project that will allow you to control up to eight external devices through your computer`s parallel port. You may for instance control different appliances such as lamps, computers, printers, tv sets, radios, music systems, air conditioners, air fans, garden...

PC based Frequency Meter

Here is a simple technique for measuring frequencies over quite a wide frequency range and with acceptable accuracy limits using a PC. It follows the basic technique of measuring low frequencies, i.e. at low frequency, period is measured for a complete wave and frequency is calculated from the...

PC controls inexpensive waveform generator

The circuit in Figure 1 is a simple cost-effective waveform generator using PC control. You calculate the digital image of the desired waveform and store it in the 32k X 8-bit RAM (62256) through the 74HCT245 data buffer and the 16-bit local-address bus generator built with the 74LS393 binary...

Channel Relay Board is a simple and convenient way to interface 8 relays for switching application in your project. Input - 12 VDC @ 336 mA. Output - eight SPDT relay. Relay specification - 5 A @ 230 VAC. Trigger level - 2 ~ 5 VDC. Berg pins for connecting power and trigger voltage. LED on each...

Computer Serial Port interface

Here is an inexpensive way to get slow-moving analog data directly into a spreadsheet on your computer! A simple circuit connects to a serial port and a short Qbasic program gathers and saves 12 bit data to a file. A spreadsheet automatically retrieves the file and displays the data in real time....

ISOLATED FULL DUPLEX RS232C INTERFACE

This self powered interface circuit electrically isolates the TxD and RxD lines from the PC serial port and protect the PC from direct connection to hazardous voltages. The isolator is intended to provide electrical isolation between a computer and the equipment connected to its serial port. This...

18-bit ADC uses PC`s serial port

A PC usually requires a plug-in ADC card to process analog signals. However, with the circuitry in Figure 1, a PC can communicate with an 18-bit ADC through its serial port. The port provides both positive and negative power supplies as well as control signals. IC1 is an 18-bit MAX132 ADC with a...
