PC Infrared Receiver

This is the latest version of the Improved Infrared Receiver with Status LED which can control any desktop PC with an ordinary remote control. The project comes along with a small PCB in order to save space. It connects to the serial port as stated in the schematic and uses the freeware Girder (www.girder.nl) software together with Igor?s Plugin (www.cesko.host.sk/girderplugin.htm) to send commands to the PC. The potential uses of this device are countless (control MP3.....

no image available RGB PWM Driver for 350mA LEDs

# This version uses a double sided PCB. Dimensions are approximately the same as the original version. # Removed the second push button switch and components for the RS232 serial interface. # Added 22K resistor between MCLR input and Vdd. This eliminates the need for a jumper on the ICSP header in normal operation. (If you use a 12F683 you can omit this resistor as well since it has an internal pull-up) ..

Stethoscope with TL072

U1a operates as a low-noise microphone preamp. Its gain is only about 3.9 because the high output impedance of the drain of the FET inside the electret microphone causes U1a?s effective input resistor to be about 12.2K. C2 has a fairly high value in order to pass very low frequency (about 20 to 30Hz) heartbeat sounds.? U1b operates as a low-noise Sallen and Key, Butterworth low-pass-filter with a cutoff frequency of about 103Hz. R7 and R8 provide a gain of about 1.6 and.....

0-30 V / 0-3A Variable Power Supply

This is a high quality power supply with a continuously variable stabilised output adjustable at any value between 0 and 30VDC. The circuit also incorporates an electronic output current limiter that effectively controls the output current from a few milliamperes (2 mA) to the maximum output of three amperes that the circuit can deliver. This feature makes this power supply indispensable in the experimenters laboratory as it is possible to limit the current to the typical.....

13.8V 20A Regulated DC power supply

This PSU has been especially designed for current-hungry ham radio transceivers. It delivers safely around 20Amps at 13.8V. For lower currents, a separate current limiting output, capable of 15ma up to a total of 20A has been added. Let us see what we have got here. The power transformer should be capable to deliver at least 25A at 17.5 to 20V. The lower the voltage, the lower power dissipation. The rectified current will be ?ironed? by the C1, whose capacity should not be.....

Pulsed Charger for Lead Acid batteries (NE555)

The object is to get the cell voltage high enough for the sulphate to dissolve without boiling or melting the battery. This is achieved by applying higher voltage for shorter periods and let the battery rest for a while. The pulses on short range is about 0.5s on / 3s off and the long pulse range is 1.4s on / 2s off. These times can vary depending on component tolerances. Start on long pulse and if you discover ?boiling? (more than with normal charging) in the electrolyte.....

Tx/Rx Control

This circuitry offers some features that are highly desirable when building a QRP (or ANY) transceiver. It also includes a combination of features that many might not always take the time to include in their projects. Considerable effort has been made to assure that in this design, the RIT (RX frequency offset control) voltage and the TX frequency offset control signals are immune to supply voltage variations. IC1 requires a regulated +6 V voltage for proper operation......

Valve high-gain stereo preamp

A cathode follower based on the 6BL7 or 6BX7 is ideal for output. I used a mu-follower circuit with no feedback, a 12SN7 as the gain stage, and a 6BL7 as the cathode follower/current source. (I have many old GEs I wanted to use, and converting to 6SN7 means simply changing the hookup to the 24V filament transformer). You might argue that the current source should be a pentode of highest possible gain, but pentodes can be noisy, and one of my design goals was minimalism......

no image available Mechanically Scanned LED Clock

This is the first clock I ever built. I`ve built a few LED signs, but they get boring because I already know the message. How this clock works: A motor spins the "propeller", and a small microprocessor keeps track of time and changes the pattern on seven LEDs with exact timing to simulate a 7 by 30 array of LEDs. It is an illusion, but it works nicely. If you want to build this clock, you will need a few things, including: Skill with motors and mechanical things......

LED mood Lamp with PIC16F628

This high power led mood light is based on PIC16F628 and the ability of this mcu to produce PWM pulses. Varying pulse width we can produce millions of color combinations using only the three basic colors. So only one RGB (Red-Green-Blue) led is capable producing a rainbow of fading colors. With the help of four switches we can handle all functions of the lamp. We can choose fading or jumping between colors, we can select a rainbow style or a random color changing behavior,.....

autodetects baud rate circuit MAX202 and PIC16C54

The popularity and easy access of RS-232 ports lend them to many communication projects. You can use a port as is” or as a tiny parallel port when the exchange uses only control lines. Before the asynchronous serial-data transfer between two devices can take place, you must ensure that both devices are configured to the same data format and transmission rate. Usually, the OS utility or application program on the host computer performs this task, which the OS or a.....

no image available 7 by 10 LED Moving Sign

As in most electric signs, the LEDs are matrixed, and strobed very quickly to make it possible for all 70 LEDs to appear lit. This sign is strobed horizontally, unlike most large signs which are strobed vertically. I did it this way because electrically it was simpler. The eprom has 8 outputs, of which I used 7 of them to drive the 7 horizontal rows...

Telephone Intercom

The Link circuitry is simple and efficient, employing just two ICs, half a dozen transistors, and a handful of garden variety components. It all runs on 12 volts and is easily assembled. You can have your own home intercom between the kitchen, the garage, the rumpus room and at your poolside ?barby? and all for less than $100! The ?Link? intercom has been designed in such a way that you can buy parts for it ?off the shelf? at just about any decent electronics retail chain......

no image available LCD Serial Terminal

This project is a self-contained serial terminal using a PIC16F84 microcontroller chip, an inexpensive LCD character display, a keypad, and very little else. It is full-duplex, meaning keypresses cause RS-232 output, and RS-232 input makes characters appear on the LCD. If you connect the RS-232 output to the input you can see the keys as you press them, without connecting to anything else (thats called looping back)...

no image available KNIGHT RIDER lights

The circuit consists of two building blocks. The first is a square wave oscillator made up of two transistors in a multivibrator arrangement and the second is a CD 4017 decade counter IC. The multivibrator contains two extra components to speed up the waveform and make it acceptable for all brands of 4017`s. Unless the output has a very fast rise and fall characteristic, some 4017`s fail to operate properly. They either do not work at all or jump two or three outputs,.....
