A pair of LEDs having different wavelengths can supply the stimulus for a rudimentary spectral analysis during quality-control sorting operations. By measuring the reflectance of each LED, the circuit in Fig 1 can provide information about the spectral response of the object under test. The circuit`s operation is akin to the human eye`s using three receptors to deduce information about the entire visible spectrum. visit page.

Air Transparency Monitor, Xenon Flash Receiver

I designed this circuit many years ago to monitor the quality of a mile long column of air for future optical communications experiments. The transmitter system (circuit 72 below) uses a powerful xenon flash in conjunction with a large 12 inch fresnel lens at the transmitter end and a matching 12...

10MHz TO 20MHz LASER LIGHT DETECTOR

This circuit was originally designed to detect laser light pulses for an optical Ethernet communications system. It has good ambient light immunity.

Light Switch with 555 Timer

When the phototransistor is stroken by IR light it conducts and the voltage between the 1Mohm resistor(arbitrary) and the phototrans drops from VCC to lower values. When the voltage drops lower than VCC/3 the 555 is triggered and goes high (from 0 TO VCC). The amount of light that strike the...

Precision Dark-Activated Switch With Hysteresis Circuit

A GdS cell is one leg of a bridge circuit. Potentiometer R6 iri another leg sets the trip point. Potentiometer R5 provides hysteresis adjustment to prevent chattering or hunting of the relay.

LIGHT DETECTORS WITH AMIBIENT LIGHT COMPENSATION

These circuits were taken from a few application notes on infrared remote control devices. They use a current compensation method to separate the modulated light pulses from ambient light. They appear to have limited bandwidth and may only work at the 30KHz to 50KHz frequencies often used by TV...

Circuit rejects ambient Light

In some applications, you need to detect light signals in the presence of background light whose intensity can change by orders of magnitude. The circuit in Figure 1 uses an integrated photodiode/amplifier (OPT201) in conjunction with an integrator that drives two linear optocouplers (TIL300)....

Line-voltage-automatic-night-light

This circuit has stable threshold characteristics from its dependence on the-photo diode current in the Ll4Cl to generate a base emitter voltage drop across the sensitivity setting resistor. The double phase shift network supplying voltage to the ST-4 trigger insures triac triggering at line...

Dark-activated 230V Lamp

This device allows one or more lamps to illuminate at sunset and turn off at dawn. Q1 and Q2 form a trigger device for the SCR, providing short pulses at 100Hz frequency. Pulse duration is set by R2 and C1. When the light hits R1, the photo resistor assumes a very low resistance value, almost...
