This circuit uses a large 1cm X 1cm silicon PIN photo diode and a transimpedance amplifier to measure the light power output of infrared and visible LEDs and laser diodes. It can be modified to produce almost any milliwatts to volts scale factor. It can be connected to either a multi-meter or an oscilloscope. visit page.

Photomultiplier output-gating circuit

The application involves observing the light pulse emerging from a thick specimen after transillumination by a laser pulse. Pulses derived from the laser source are amplified using a Video Amplifier LM733. The reference level is set to 1 V in the comparator LM 710, to provide the necessary...

Circuit rejects ambient light

The circuit in Figure 1 uses an integrated photodiode/amplifier (OPT201) in conjunction with an integrator that drives two linear optocouplers (TIL300). The optocouplers subtract the background-light-generated current from the current the optical sensor produces.

Low power 100KHz Light Receiver

By starving a high speed logic inverter for current, this circuit can produce a sensitive 100KHz light receiver circuit, which is immune to ambient light, but only drawing 100 microamps from a 3 volt supply.

Three-phase switch

To simplify the following schematics and facilitate easy understanding of the principles involved, the following schematic substitution is used (Note the triac driver is of limited use at 3 f voltage levels).

Clear Fluid Detector 2

Using an ultra low power technique, this circuit detects when a clear fluid is inside a piece of clear plastic tubing. It can be used for fluid level control and monitoring.

Light Receiver 1KHz to 70MHz

This circuit uses one tiny C-MOS inverter IC to form a modulated light receiver with a very fast response. It is designed around a PIN photo diode that is packaged for use with plastic optical fibers. It can be used as an optical fiber receiver. By using the open end of the optical fiber it can...

Sun-Up Alarm

The Sun-Up Alarm can be used to provide a audible alarm for when the sun comes up or it can be used in a dark area and detect when a light comes on. It can also be used to detect a light beam, headlights etc. The circuit works as follows. The phototransistor is very sensitive to light. (Any...

Stun Gun Circuit

The circuit detects a sudden shadow falling on the light-sensor and sounds the bleeper when this happens. The circuit will not respond to gradual changes in brightness to avoid false alarms. The bleeper sounds for only a short time to prevent the battery running flat. Normal lighting can be used,...
