Switching diodes are used to fire the neon lamps when negative-peak modulation hits 50. 60, and 100%. To use the circuit, keep an eye on the lamps.

You should attempt to keep the 50% lamp firing all the time, the 60% lamp should be on as much as possible, but try to prevent thelOO% lamp from lighting.
