An extremely simple and low cost Sine/Square wave generator based on the Analog Devices AD9835 Direct Digital Synthesis (DDS) Generator chip. The frequency can be set for any frequency from 1Hz to 10MHz in 1Hz resolution steps! All this with three push buttons and a novel "sliding window" LED display. More: The controller chip is a Microchip PIC16F628. There is no wiring, and the PCB fits into a standard UB3 Jiffy Box.

The described Sine/Square wave generator utilizes the AD9835 Direct Digital Synthesis (DDS) chip, which allows for precise frequency generation across a wide range, specifically from 1 Hz to 10 MHz in 1 Hz increments. This capability is crucial for applications requiring stable and accurate waveform generation. The AD9835 can produce both sine and square wave outputs, making it versatile for various testing and signal generation purposes.

The device is controlled by a Microchip PIC16F628 microcontroller, which manages user inputs and the configuration of the DDS chip. The microcontroller interfaces with the AD9835 through a serial communication protocol, typically using SPI (Serial Peripheral Interface), allowing for efficient data transfer and control commands. The use of a microcontroller simplifies the overall design by minimizing external components and facilitating easy programming for frequency adjustments and operational modes.

User interaction is facilitated through three push buttons, which can be programmed to perform functions such as increasing or decreasing the frequency, toggling between sine and square wave outputs, and potentially resetting the device. The novel "sliding window" LED display provides a visual indication of the current frequency setting, enhancing usability. This display likely consists of a series of LEDs that light up in a manner that conveys the frequency value, allowing users to easily read the output frequency at a glance.

The design is compact, with the printed circuit board (PCB) fitting into a standard UB3 Jiffy Box, which is a common enclosure for electronic projects. This aspect of the design ensures that no wiring is necessary, promoting a clean and reliable assembly. The integration of components on the PCB minimizes the risk of connection issues and enhances the durability of the device.

Overall, this Sine/Square wave generator is an efficient, cost-effective solution for generating precise waveforms, suitable for educational purposes, laboratory testing, and other applications where signal generation is required. An extremely simple and low cost Sine/Square wave generator based on the Analog Devices AD9835 Direct Digital Synthesis (DDS) Generator chip.
