The LA4440 is a dual-channel audio amplifier integrated circuit (IC) that operates in two modes: stereo amplifier mode and bridge amplifier mode. This monolithic linear IC is produced by Sanyo. The circuit includes both amplifier modes utilizing the LA4440. A filter capacitor, C10, is employed to reduce the ripple in the supply voltage. It is advised not to decrease the values of capacitors C6 and C7 below 100 µF, 10 V, as this may adversely affect the output at low frequencies. In the stereo amplifier mode, pin 6 of the LA4440 serves as the audio input, while in bridge mode, this pin is grounded. Capacitors C8 and C9 are polyester film capacitors used to prevent oscillation, and resistors R1 and R2 serve the same purpose as filter resistors. Although the maximum supply voltage for both amplifier circuits is 18 V, a power supply of 12 V and 3 A is recommended. A high-quality heat sink should be used with the LA4440. A comparison between the stereo and bridge amplifier configurations is provided. For those interested in building an amplifier project, the bridge configuration is recommended as it is ideal for beginners and offers a preferable wattage compared to the stereo mode. Additionally, it is possible to create two copies of the bridge amplifier circuit for stereo output, resulting in a total audio power output of 19 W + 19 W.
The LA4440 dual-channel audio amplifier circuit is designed for versatility, allowing users to choose between stereo and bridge configurations based on their specific audio requirements. In stereo mode, the amplifier can drive two speakers, providing a rich sound experience, while the bridge mode combines the output power, effectively doubling the wattage delivered to a single speaker. This is particularly beneficial for applications requiring higher power output or when driving larger speakers.
The circuit design incorporates essential components to ensure optimal performance. The filter capacitor C10 plays a critical role in stabilizing the power supply by filtering out any voltage ripples that could affect audio quality. Capacitors C6 and C7 are integral to maintaining the integrity of low-frequency signals; hence, their capacitance should not fall below the specified value.
In bridge mode, the grounding of pin 6 eliminates the audio input, allowing the amplifier to function as a single high-power output device. The use of polyester film capacitors C8 and C9 is crucial for maintaining signal integrity by mitigating oscillation that could lead to distortion. Resistors R1 and R2 are strategically placed to further enhance stability within the circuit, ensuring that the amplifier operates efficiently without unwanted interference.
The recommended power supply of 12 V and 3 A strikes a balance between performance and safety, providing sufficient current without exceeding the maximum voltage rating of the LA4440. The implementation of a quality heat sink is essential, as it dissipates heat generated during operation, prolonging the lifespan of the IC and maintaining consistent audio output.
In summary, the LA4440 audio amplifier circuit offers flexibility for audio applications, making it suitable for both novice and experienced users. The ability to switch between stereo and bridge modes, combined with thoughtful component selection, results in a robust circuit capable of delivering high-quality audio performance.LA4440 is a dual channel audio amplifier IC. It can be used in two modes one is Stereo amplifier and another Bridge amplifier mode. The LA4440 is a monolithic linear IC from Sanyo. Here I give the both circuit mode of amplifier using IC LA4440. C10 is filter capacitor used to reduce the ripple of supply voltage. Don`t decrease the value of capacitor C6&C7 less than 100uF, 10v, it may causes of the output at low frequencies goes lower. The pin-6 of LA4440 amplifier circuit is audio input pin; it used in stereo amplifier mode but in bridge mode it is grounded. C8&C9 are polyester film capacitor used to preventing oscillation, and R1&R2 used for the same reason as filter resistor.
Though the maximum supply voltage for both circuit of amplifier is 18V but we recommend to use a 12V, 3A power supply. Use a good quality heat sink with LA4440. I think here you see little comparison between stereo and bridge amplifier of LA4440. If you want to make this amplifier project, then I recommend you the bridge one. I think it is ideal for a beginner. And I love its wattage rather than Stereo mode. There is also a possibilities as I say, make two copies of circuit of bridge amplifier for stereo, it will give you 19w+19w of audio power output.
