The M27512 is a high-performance 524,288-bit ultraviolet erasable and electrically programmable read-only memory (EPROM) organized as 65,536 words by 8 bits. This non-volatile memory device features fast access times, low power consumption, and high reliability, making it suitable for a wide range of industrial and commercial applications. The device uses proven floating gate technology and is packaged in a ceramic or plastic windowed package that allows for UV erasure.
Key advantages of the M27512 include its simple interfacing with microprocessors, standardized pinout configuration, and the ability to be reprogrammed after UV erasure. The device typically offers 100,000 erase/program cycles and 20 years of data retention.
The M27512 EPROM is widely used in various electronic systems requiring non-volatile firmware storage:
The M27512 operates in three modes: read, standby, and programming. During read operations, the addressed byte is available at the output pins after the specified access time. The device enters standby mode when CE is at VIH, reducing power consumption. Programming is accomplished by applying VPP (12.75V) to the programming pin while providing the appropriate address and data inputs with specific timing.
The memory array is organized in a symmetrical pattern to maximize reliability and minimize access times. The device incorporates internal circuitry for program verification and program inhibit functions. An additional program pulse can be applied without UV erasure for fine-tuning of marginal memory cells.
The entire chip can be erased by exposure to ultraviolet light with a wavelength of 2537Å. Typical erasure requires 15-30 minutes of exposure to UV light at an intensity of 12,000μW/cm². After erasure, all bits read as FFh (all ones).
The M27512 meets or exceeds the following reliability specifications:
