As a cyclist, there is a constant search for methods to enhance visibility during nighttime rides. The concept of the `NITE-RIDER` was developed to create a distinctive and attention-grabbing rear light for bicycles. This design features nine extra-bright LEDs that illuminate in a continuous left-to-right and right-to-left sequence. The system can be configured with red LEDs for rear visibility or white LEDs for increased visibility at the front of the bike. All integrated circuits (ICs) utilized in this design are CMOS devices, allowing for operation with a 9V PP3 battery while maintaining a low current draw to maximize battery life.

The `NITE-RIDER` circuit design incorporates nine high-intensity LEDs arranged in a linear fashion, enabling a dynamic light display that alternates between left and right. This alternating pattern not only enhances visibility but also serves as a visual signal to motorists, increasing safety for the cyclist.

The power supply for the circuit is a 9V PP3 battery, which is chosen for its compact size and sufficient voltage to drive the LEDs effectively. The use of CMOS technology in the ICs is critical, as it allows for low power consumption, thus prolonging the operational time of the light system without the need for frequent battery replacements.

The circuit can be designed using a microcontroller or a simple timer IC that controls the sequencing of the LEDs. For instance, a 555 timer IC can be configured in astable mode to generate a pulse-width modulation signal that turns the LEDs on and off in the desired pattern. This setup not only simplifies the design but also provides flexibility in adjusting the frequency and duty cycle of the LED flashing.

In terms of construction, the LEDs should be mounted on a printed circuit board (PCB) to ensure durability and ease of assembly. The PCB can be designed to accommodate the necessary resistors to limit the current through the LEDs, preventing damage and ensuring optimal brightness. Additionally, a protective casing can be implemented to shield the electronics from environmental factors, enhancing the longevity of the device.

Overall, the `NITE-RIDER` is a practical solution for cyclists seeking to improve their visibility on the road, combining innovative design with efficient electronic components to create a reliable and effective lighting system. As a keen cyclist I am always looking for ways to be seen at night. I wanted something that was a novelty and would catch the motorists eye. So looking around at my fellow cyclists rear lights, I came up with the idea of `NITE-RIDER`. NINE extra bright LED`s running from left to right and right to left continuously. It could be constructed with re d LEDs for use on the rear of the bike or white LED`s for an extra eye catcher on the front of the bike. All IC`s are CMOS devices so that a 9V PP3 battery can be used, and the current drawn is very low so that it will last as long as possible.
