The UDA1350AH is a single-chip IEC 958 audio decoder that features an integrated stereo digital-to-analog converter utilizing bitstream conversion techniques. In addition to the UDA1350AH, which is the fully-featured version packaged in a QFP44, there is also the UDA1350ATS. The UDA1350ATS includes an IEC 958 input to the DAC only and comes in an SSOP28 package. The UDA1350AH can operate in various modes: it supports IEC 958 input to the DAC with on-chip signal processing, IEC 958 input via the digital data output interface to an external Digital Signal Processor (DSP), IEC 958 input to the DAC and a DSP, IEC 958 input via a DSP to the DAC with on-chip signal processing, and external source data input to the DAC with on-chip signal processing. The IEC 958 input audio data, along with the associated pre-emphasis information, is available on the output data interface. A lock indication signal is provided on pin LOCK, indicating that the IEC 958 decoder is locked. By default, the DAC output and data output interface are muted when the decoder is out-of-lock; however, this setting can be overridden in the L3 control mode.

The UDA1350AH audio decoder is designed to facilitate high-quality audio signal processing in various applications. The device's primary function is to decode audio signals compliant with the IEC 958 standard, which is widely used in digital audio transmission. The integration of a stereo digital-to-analog converter (DAC) allows for efficient conversion of digital audio data into analog signals, suitable for playback through standard audio equipment.

The device supports multiple operational modes, enabling flexibility in system design. The on-chip signal processing capabilities enhance audio quality by allowing for pre-emphasis and other audio enhancements to be applied directly within the decoder. The option to interface with an external DSP further extends the functionality, enabling advanced audio processing techniques to be employed.

In terms of connectivity, the UDA1350AH features a robust output data interface that transmits the decoded audio data, including pre-emphasis information, ensuring that the audio output retains fidelity to the original source material. The presence of a lock indication signal on pin LOCK serves as a critical feedback mechanism, allowing system designers to monitor the operational status of the decoder. If the decoder loses lock, the default behavior is to mute both the DAC output and the data output interface, preventing unwanted noise or artifacts in the audio signal. This behavior can be modified in L3 control mode, providing additional control to the user.

Overall, the UDA1350AH is a versatile and powerful component for audio applications, combining advanced features with ease of integration into various electronic systems. Its ability to handle different audio input types and processing modes makes it suitable for a wide range of consumer and professional audio devices. The UDA1350AH is a single chip IEC 958 Audio decoder with an integrated stereo digital-to-analog converter employing bitstream conversion techniques.
