The computer optimized 9 el. homebrew antenna is performing very well. I have made many long distance contacts using the ON6MU VHF Yagi antenna. I have the antenna located only 35 feet above the ground. More: The very first day I put up the ON6MU antenna, I contacted two stations in Toronto Canada which is located 507 km. away from me. Other stations I contacted were located in other states like Buffalo, New York, Pennsylvania, Indiana, Tennessee, Michigan.
The described antenna system is a 9-element Yagi antenna designed for VHF (Very High Frequency) operation, optimized for enhanced performance in long-distance communication. The Yagi design features a series of elements, including a driven element, reflectors, and directors, which work together to create a highly directional radiation pattern. This configuration allows for increased gain and improved signal clarity, making it suitable for long-range contacts.
The antenna is mounted at a height of 35 feet above ground level, which is beneficial for reducing ground interference and improving line-of-sight communication with distant stations. The elevation plays a crucial role in radio wave propagation, particularly in VHF frequencies, where the horizon can significantly impact signal strength.
The performance of the ON6MU Yagi antenna has been demonstrated through successful communications with stations located over 500 kilometers away, including notable contacts with stations in Toronto, Canada. Additionally, contacts have been made with various states such as New York, Pennsylvania, Indiana, Tennessee, and Michigan, showcasing the antenna's effectiveness in reaching diverse locations.
Proper installation and alignment of the antenna can further enhance its performance. It is recommended to ensure that the antenna is oriented towards the desired communication direction to maximize signal reception and transmission. Furthermore, the use of quality coaxial cable and connectors is essential to minimize signal loss and maintain optimal performance.
Overall, the 9-element Yagi antenna serves as an excellent solution for amateur radio operators seeking reliable long-distance communication capabilities in the VHF band. The computer optimized 9 el. homebrew antenna is performing very well. I have
