Great idea to remove the core of the HV-transformer, that increases the frequency and the step up rate still seems to be good enough. Do you hear any singing or screeching when your circuit is on I also saw that the spiral type CFLs are specially good for such experiments (they seem to ignite easier than the U-shaped tubes). But they are difficult to find in the stores nowadays

, they where more common when the CFL-area began a few years ago. I ordered some surplus fly back transformers, therefore I am very interested in your circuit. I like the idea to light a CFL from an AAA battery. It always catches the attention of onlookers. It is almost impossible to reconstruct your circuit from the video. I would like to ask you to post a photo of a simple hand drawing of your circuit (schematics).
